Program Overview

The Medical Assistant Certification Program combines coursework and hands-on training. Students learn vital skills such as phlebotomy, EKG administration, and medical office procedures, all delivered through online live sessions via Zoom and in-person workshops at the Rockville Centre campus. Courses are designed for flexible scheduling with day, evening, and weekend options.

The program also includes preparation for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exams, allowing graduates to earn certifications like the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA). This makes graduates highly competitive in the fast-growing healthcare industry, where demand for medical assistants continues to rise.

Curriculum Highlights

The curriculum consists of eight required courses totaling 112 hours, covering topics such as:

  • Medical Office Procedures and Assisting Skills (27 hours)
  • Anatomy and Physiology (24 hours)
  • Medical Terminology (24 hours)
  • Phlebotomy for the MA (15 hours)
  • Administering Electrocardiograms (10 hours)

Additionally, students complete a 160-hour clinical externship, gaining real-world experience in healthcare settings.

Certification Opportunities

Graduates are eligible to sit for two NHA certification exams:

  • CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant)
  • CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant)

These certifications are widely recognized and help graduates secure roles in administrative and clinical capacities. The CCMA exam costs $160, while the CMAA exam costs $115.

Scheduling and Locations

Courses are available year-round with flexible start dates. Most are conducted live online via Zoom, while hands-on workshops are held at the Rockville Centre campus or the Suffolk Center in Amityville. Students can begin the program at any time by enrolling in Medical Office Procedures and Assisting Skills, the foundational course.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The total tuition for the program is approximately $1,820, including all required courses. Students have the flexibility to pay per course and register individually. Financial aid options, including the Workforce Development Scholarship, are available to qualified applicants.
